Aldershot's First Murder?
By Scott Forsyth

Not much else can be found for this story from 1855. There wasn't a follow up in the newspaper and any searches through Ancestry on the two suspects would not confirm anything.   A search of the Kingston Penitentiary records shows a James O Donnell but he was there on a Larceny charge from 1848.
Wells Bardwell's name also comes up blank when searching Ancestry for an 1851 Census in Canada. If he happened to live in East Flamborough in that year it wouldn't help as that Census is missing or destroyed. Perhaps more research will show up to finalize this event.
An educated guess would be that this murder took place in the area where J Cooke's cement plant was located. This quarry's northern boundary extended up to the Railway tracks.
